Immediately upon the Navy’s release of its Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) budget request allocating $400 million for two large [200- to 300-foot, 2,000 ton] unmanned surface vehicles in its RDT&E account, the Navy released a Large Unmanned Surface Vessel (LUSV) Sources Sought/Request For Information.

According to Tuesday’s preliminary budget briefing provided by Rear Adm. Randy Crites, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Budget, the Sea Service plans to continue buying two LUSV “ghost ships” a year until FY 2024, for a total of about $2.7 billion.
